National type approval of measuring Instruments
National type approval of legally controlled measuring instruments is a part of metrological verification of measuring instruments according to § 19 of the Act No 157/2018 Coll on metrology and amending certain laws. It represents significant part of tasks of the Slovak Institute of Metrology, and is aimed at ensuring that types of legally controlled measuring instruments according to § 11 of the Act on metrology fulfil prescribed technical and metrological requirements.
Decision on national type approval of measuring instrument represents basic condition for placing legally controlled measuring instruments on the market. This decision is not only providing an evidence that type of measuring instrument complies with technical and metrological requirements, but it is also serving for the subjects that verify these instruments either initially or subsequently during their use. Therefore this decision represents an essential aid for relevant employees of the Slovak Institute of Metrology, of the Slovak Legal Metrology, non-profit organization and also for the employees of authorized entities under § 31 of the Act on metrology, which have permission to verify legally controlled measuring instruments issued by the Slovak Office of Standards, Metrology and Testing.
Slovak Office of Standards, metrology and Testing publishes a list of types of legally controlled measuring instruments under § 4 item h) point 2 of the Act on metrology. The list is published as a database which contains documents on national type approval of measuring instruments issued since 1 January 1993. Due to the changes in legislation during the next period the database is divided into three separate parts:
database TSQ containing documents issued from 1 January 1993 to 7 May 1998 according to the Act No 505/1990 Coll on Metrology,
database CERT containing documents issued from 8 May 1998 to 30 June 2000 according to the Act No 30/1968 Coll on State Testing, and
database TSK containing documents issued from 1 July 2000 up to now, according to the Act No 157/2018 Coll on metrology.
From the above mentioned databases only the database TSK is “alive”. It is accordingly updated by newly issued documents. However, all databases still contain decisions validity of which has already expired, because measuring instruments placed on the market according to these decisions are still in use and in most cases they are subject to subsequent verification.
Databases are accessible on the website https://typovky.unms.sk/ which contains more detailed information including search methods.
