Type approval of measuring Instruments
Type approval of legally controlled measuring instruments is a part of metrological control of measuring instruments according to § 9 of the Act No 142/2000 Coll. on Metrology and on Change and Amendment of some Acts, as amended. It represents significant part of tasks of the Slovak Institute of Metrology, and is aimed at ensuring that types of legally controlled measuring instruments according to § 8 of the Act on Metrology fulfil prescribed requirements.
Decision on type approval of measuring instrument represents basic condition for initial verification of type approved measuring instruments, and subsequent placing on the market. This document is not only providing an evidence that type of measuring instrument complies with legal requirements, but it is also serving for the subjects that verify these instruments either initially or subsequently during their use. Therefore this decision represents an essential aid for relevant employees of the Slovak Institute of Metrology, of the Slovak Legal Metrology, non-profit organization and also for the employees of authorized entities having permission to verify legally controlled measuring instruments issued by the SOSMT.
In the past these documents were not generally easy accessible, especially as regards the employees of authorized entities. In certain period these decisions were issued not only by the Slovak Institute of Metrology, but also by the Services of Legal Metrology of the Slovak Republic (predecessor of the Slovak Legal Metrology), and by the SOSMT as well. Due this fact the accessibility of these documents became problematic.
Therefore the SOSMT decided to establish and make available database of approved types of measuring instruments with the possibility of information retrieval according to the chosen criteria including full texts of the respective decision on type approval in pdf format.
Database contains documents on type approval of measuring instruments issued since 1 January 1993. Due to the changes in legislation during the next period the database is divided into three separate parts:
- database TSQ containing documents issued from 1 January 1993 to 7 May 1998 according to the Act No 505/1990 Coll. on Metrology,
- database CERT containing documents issued from 8 May 1998 to 30 June 2000 according to the Act No 30/1968 Coll. on State Testing, and
- database TSK containing documents issued from 1 July 2000 up to now, according to the Act No 142/2000 Coll. on Metrology.
From the above mentioned databases only the database TSK is “live”. It will be accordingly updated by newly issued documents. However, all databases still contain decisions validity of which has already expired, because measuring instruments placed on the market according to these decisions are still in use and in most cases they are subject to subsequent verification.
Databases are accessible on the website https://typovky.unms.sk/ which contains more detailed information including search methods.
Publishing of documents on type approval of measuring instruments will be useful for all stakeholders involved in verification of legally controlled measuring instruments, and for wider professional public as well.
